In August 2008, Universal Display Corp. announced a $1.9 million, two-year U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) contract to develop a ceiling-based white organic light-emitting diode (OLED) lighting system. This solid-state lighting program award is funded through the DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. During this product development project, Universal Display and its subcontractor, Armstrong World Industries, will deliver a ceiling illumination system using white OLED lighting panels.
