Sylvania Lighting Services(SLS) has signed an agreement to purchase the operating assets of Amtech Lighting Services from ABM Industries. Expected to be completed Oct. 13, 2008, the acquisition will expand SLS into new regions in the U.S. and strengthen its banking, office, and industrial markets, according to the company. Its service vehicle fleet will also expand to 900 vehicles nationwide.

Besa Lighting has launched a new website. The new site allows visitors to configure products and see the result on the fly, with glass colors, fixture choices, and finishes chosen by the client. The site also has a store locator, a news section, and improvements to the site search and related products picker.

Permalight Products has launched Brillia, a new division dedicated to working with lighting OEM's working on LED-based luminaires. Permalight has worked in applying LED technology to fixtures for over ten years and is positioning Brillia to help bring those technologies to market.

Schuler Shook, the Chicago-based theatre planners and lighting designers have promoted Giolio Pedota to principal. Pedota, a member of the IALD and IESNA, has been with the firm since 1999. The firm is currently working on the Abu Dhabi Golf Club and Hotel, the Holocaust Memorial Foundation of Illinois, and the University of Chicago's Logan Center for Performing Arts.

Crestron has announced the appointment of Jay Almer as the new director of commercial lighting, which will have him managing global sales for Crestron Commercial Lighting. Almer was most recently the director of sales for Lutron Electronics.
