Essenze, the strategic distribution partner for New Zealand designers has joined forces with advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi to present an exhibition of the best of modern New Zealand design. Works, including furniture, lighting, and applied art, will be on display through June 30, 2006 on the ground floor of Saatchi & Saatchi's New York building at 375 Hudson Street.
The collection of 30 designers was showcased at the International Contemporary Fair (ICFF) in May 2006. As Clare Mora, director of Essenze, says, 'There is currently international demand within the contemporary design market for new and different products. New Zealand designers produce original, contemporary design products that have strong interest and appeal internationally.'
Some notable lighting designs are included in the collection. David Trubridge's sculptural wooden shades employ sustainable materials and a purity in their form, while Jeremy Cole's large porcelain flower-like luminaires are grand in concept and scale.
