The International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) will celebrate its 35th anniversary with a day of festivities in Manhattan--its birth city--on October 14, 2004. A lineup of interesting events, and an attending crowd infamous for knowing how to have a 'good time,' mean this is an industry event not to be missed.
The day kicks off with a Recognition Luncheon at the Grand Hyatt on Park Avenue. Founders, past presidents, and other major contributors will be recognized by association president Charles Stone. The luncheon may also serve as an opportunity to induct any new fellows into the IALD College of Fellows. A panel discussion 'Inside the Lighting Designer's Studio' follows at 1:30, and another tracking lighting milestones over the past 35 years starts at 3:30. An anniversary reception will be held at the Center for Architecture, on Bleecker Street, at 7:00 pm.
The crowd promises to be an interesting selection from the design community. Jan Stone, marketing and communications manager, says, 'We are hoping for at least 100 attendees and have invited people from the lighting design and overall design community, including architects and interior designers.'
Attendees will receive a 35th Anniversary Historic Yearbook--to which the association is encouraging members to contribute with a congratulatory ad by September 15. Information about this, sponsorship opportunities and event tickets is available at
