The festival’s artistic leader is lighting designer Rogier van der Heide. New for the festival’s fifth iteration, is the introduction of specific themes for each of the two exhibition routes, one which allows visitors to see the art and light installations by boat and the other by walking. The theme for the water route, called Water Colors, is View of Amsterdam. The theme for the walking route, called Illuminade, is Biomimicry.

Artists, designers, engineer, lighting designers, and architects are invited to submit a project proposal that speaks to either of these themes. To request the full artists briefing, interested parties must complete the request form, available at the festival website.

The 2015 – 2016 festival, which ran from Nov. 2015 through Jan. 2016, featured more than 40 installations around the city.
