National Building Museum

Unbuilt Washington,” on view through May 28 at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C., assembles an impressive collection of drawings, models, and photographs documenting proposed architectural and urban design projects for the nation's capital including alternative schemes for the Washington Monument, the National Mall, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Kennedy Center. Although the projects in the exhibited collection were never realized, as proposals they nonetheless still exerted a certain amount of influence on the buildings, monuments, and streetscapes that were to come to fruition.
